This Is What I Dig About Saturdays…

Posted by Renzie on March 15, 2008

I woke up not more than 30 minutes ago- and here I am hunkered down in front of my PC blogging away while I got Creative Media Player cranking out some of my favorite tunes.  At this very moment, Josh Verdes is singing “Home”.  There’s something Mayer-esque about his style, and this song in particular reminds me of “Your Body Is A Wonderland”.

I find Saturday mornings as a perfect time to catch up on my blogging.  As you all know, I probably have at least 5 active blogs going on right now, all on a particular topic.  I realized that, looking through the  ‘Manage Posts’ tab, it turns out that I tend to amass quite a number of unfinished drafts.  This blog alone has five entries that need some finishing.  So it seems I have my work cut out for me today :).

Days like these are great for reading other people’s blogs too.  Thanks to PageFlakes (and thanks to Andrian Lee of AsiaPay for so recommending it), it’s so much easier to keep track of all my favorite blogs.  I can be really all too focused on work on weekdays that I tend to miss out on some noteworthy events that may have transpired over the week- and a quick review of blogs serves as a good way to bring myself up to speed.

For instance, while I’ve been busy at the radio station, there seems to be some activity on Multiply on a post of mine on Yahoo’s 10 Top Recommended Restaurants in Metro Manila.  I like it when friends of mine and friends of friends take time to drop in and give me their two cents’ worth.  And from the discussion on that post, it seems I’ll go try out a couple new restos this weekend- Sala in J. Nakpil is probably worth checking out, and maybe this Chocolat in SM Mall of Asia, or Conti’s in Serendra.

So I’ll probably end up working on my backlogs for a couple hours before heading out to the gym and get some chores done.  Oh the usual- groceries, pet supplies, laundry- nothing too exciting.  Cristina and I have ourselves the rest of the afternoon/evening to go visit a spa, watch a movie and have a leisurely dinner.  Then I’ll meet up with my friends much later in the evening to just hang out.

And yeah, I’ll most likely write about those too.  So check you all out soon.

Cheers, everyone.

The Master Plan.

Posted by Renzie on December 4, 2007

At any given time, in any given situation, your actions have to be governed by your Master Plan.

You do have a Master Plan, don’t you?

The Master Plan is more than just a plan- it’s really more of a roadmap of where you want to go with your life, or probably more appropriately, what you want to do with it, and what you want to be.

Just like any map, there are a number of ways to get to your destination.  What truly matters is the end goal, and the choices you make getting there.

My Master Plan

No, I don’t see myself slaving away at a 9-to-5 job when I hit, say, 40- which is a mere 6 years from now, incidentally.

Obviously I would like to do the things I want to do.  Blogging is obviously one of my newfound passions.

I like my job now- I definitely like what I’m doing. But in the not-too-distant future, I’ll probably have a number of people doing things for me instead.  So yeah, I would very much want to have a few companies under my name.

I’ve already started on that- I do have my own marketing communications company now, and an events group.  But I’d also want to have my own online stores, get into the toy retail business, set up a pet supplies shop, probably my own grocery store.

I also started my travel agency, but I still haven’t quite decided how to position it.  Besides, I got my hands rather full at the moment- so maybe it will have to be shelved for now.

What’s The Point?

Of course, there must be a point to the Master Plan.  I want to break away from depending on regular employment.  Not that it’s a bad thing- heck, if you can have both, go for it.

But there’s nothing as fulfilling as having your own thing going on.  And success is intoxicating.  You taste a little, and it just fuels your ambition, urging you to do more.

The point really, is to get to a point when your money and reputation is working for you, that you can spend time doing the things you want.

I sure would love to spend more time with my loved ones, my family, my friends, heck even my cats.

I would like to enjoy leisurely afternoons of gaming, reading, playing the guitar, or doing whatever I want to do.

I would like to have weekends out of town- whether at a spa or a resort, and maybe have the occasional vacation outside the country.

I would love to build my collection of books, toys, music and movies- and actually have time to enjoy them.

The Final Word

In short, I’d want to be able to take it easy when I hit 40.  Do the things I want, and spending time with the most important people in my life.

The Big Step Forward

Posted by Renzie on June 9, 2007

It seems that life, for me, began at 33. I’ve never had this kind of clarity ever before. I’ve decided to take a major step forward in my life, and yeah, it’s just awesome.

It would really be great to do nothing but sit around at home all day, playing games and watching DVDs- but after 2 months of that- it got incredibly boring!

Which made me think, really. What did I really want to do? I definitely want to make cash, but none of the responsibilities (at least as little as I could possibly have). So that’s goal #1: Finding a fairly laid-back, but just as financially and mentally rewarding day job. Why laid-back? Because I also wanted to do other things OUTSIDE work: I’d like to hit the gym, I’d like to learn me some new skills, like SEO, internet marketing, etc, I’d like to have my own businesses. And more importantly, I’d like to spend time with the important things in life- my family and friends.

Yes, it can be done. And all this- this blog- is all about my new life. I love it that I have been in radio for the past 12 years, that I’ve run a floor with as much as 120 agents at any given time, and that I’ve been directly involved in making business better for the last radio station I worked for.

This is a time for making new friends and allies. A time for discovery and a time for learning. This blog, ambitious as it may be, is for everyone who has taken a brave big step forward- scary, yes, but terribly fulfilling in the end.

Good luck to us all! Cheers!

Hey Hey It’s The Renzie (Man)Welcome to my humble blog! This web journal is entirely dedicated to keeping track of the efforts I do to live life a little healthier and a lot more stress-free. I’m not getting any younger, and seriously, I feel the excesses of my decadent life slowly catching up with me.

Join me as I try to fight back the extra poundage, hop from one spa to another, make a low-carb (but very tasty!) meal, and pretty much whatever else is needed to rebuild my body into a better, stronger, faster me.
